Hello
PODCAST

Today on the solo round I talk about belief systems. I believe this is what helps us or holds us back from our most exciting goals. So how do we even know and find the black hole that surrounds us and our thinking?  We have to go on a hunt for them, make a decision if it helps or hurts us and push past.  Listen in to learn more and let me know what you think at www.sslbcommunity.com – that’s our free facebook group where we continue the conversation!

Hey, everybody, Happy Monday. This is a solo round a quick five minute if I can keep it to five minutes. podcast to start out your week. All right. So this past week, I wrote a blog post about beliefs. And I wanted to talk to you guys a little bit about that, because it’s something that I hear a lot. And I have a daily practice that I think has really helped me in terms of my beliefs. Now, any kind of resolution that you have, or anytime someone comes to me and they say, like I’m struggling with this thing or that thing, it always can boil down to what it is they really believe. So our beliefs are really just simply that anything that we believe about anything. So I believe my dogs are about to bark in the background, because I can hear them do this growl sound and I know from experience, that’s when they usually will bark first they’ll do the little growl, right? I believe that it’s warm in Atlanta, because I grew up in the north and I had heard and learned that it was warmer in the south. And when I moved to the south, I experienced that. So my beliefs about it being warmer in Atlanta than it is in Vermont are really solid, it there would have to be a lot to happen to ever shake my belief on that. But you can hear my dogs didn’t bark. So already my belief that when they make that little growl, noise doesn’t always mean they’re gonna bark. So my belief on that isn’t totally rock solid. So my beliefs are really just something I think about anything. Now, I tend to be pretty transparent here on the podcast. And so I’m going to share with you, my my daily practice of what I do to journal and come up and get to the root and the core of all my beliefs. So anytime I’m trying to accomplish something, or I’m frustrated with something, or I’m having a problem, or something’s getting under my nerves, whatever it is, I will take that thing. And in the morning, I journal now, I just was talking with someone, and I have told them my practice of journaling. And they were like, I just can’t get into that man, you know, like, I’m just not into like writing it down. I’m not like into having a pretty journal, I actually don’t I use an app called day one. I started using it on my iPad. And then I shifted and I use it on my Mac, it’s like five bucks for your iPad. on my Mac, it was much more expensive. It was more like 40 bucks, but I use it every day. And it’s really a great app, because it lets me put in a picture if I want to, which I don’t typically do. But if I’m traveling, I will and it’s kind of fun to look back, it will record the actual location of where I am what the weather is. So again, it’s fun to kind of look back. But what I do every morning, I open up day one, and I just start writing. So I actually use it in a much more curious way. So I almost interview myself and I write down. I sound a little crazy right now. But I write down both sides of the interview. So I’ll say today I want to talk about, you know, an experience I had yesterday where I felt annoyed, you know, and then I’ll say, Well, tell me about that. No, right. And so it’s sort of like this interview going back and forth where I can ask myself questions. Now what this allows me to do is actually step back. Anytime I’m trying to get to the root of a problem or a core of a problem, I tried to step back, instead of being the Dewar, instead of being the person taking the action, the person feeling the emotions, the person having the experience, I try to become a witness. And when I become a witness, it allows me to disassociate. So it allows me to remove the emotion from it, so that I can get to the core of the thing much easier. Now, when I’m interviewing myself, makes it easier to do that, because I’m watching it’s almost like I’m witnessing an interview of two people that I’m that I don’t really know, you know, so I go through and I say like, I want to talk about this thing that annoyed me yesterday. Tell me about that thing. And when I when I boil it down and boil it down, and I continue to be curious and ask myself questions. Well, you know, today I wrote and I won’t tell you all the gory details, but it got to the point where it was like I felt they were being boastful. So then the interview asked, Do you think being boastful is bad now? Now? Getting into a belief system? No, I don’t think being boastful is bad if you do it as a joke. Oh, so you do think being boss was bad. But yeah, being boastful is bad, being competent is not there’s a difference. Ah, what’s the difference? So do you see how I do it like an interview where I really just try to get to the root of what I really think now? How is this going to help me This is going to help me because I’m going to better understand myself. And when I better understand myself, and what I believe I’m much better able to make choices for my life, that are congruent with how I really think many times we make choices based on what we believe we think. But it’s not what we really think. And so we feel congruent, we can’t stay consistent. We feel like it’s not working, something’s not right, something just doesn’t feel right. Have you ever had that feeling? Something just doesn’t feel right. It’s because you’re not congruent with what you really, really believe deep down. And so it’s okay, just get to the bottom of it. When you have that feeling. That’s a great key that that’s something I need to explore. That’s something I need to get to the bottom of. So start that practice, see if it helps you, you don’t have to use that app, you can write it down on a piece of paper, you can open up Microsoft Word and just jot write yourself an email, whatever it is, but I think it’s really important to have a space for it, and a space where you feel safe, where you know, nobody else is going to see it. And what I have found in doing this practice over and over and over. And I talked about it in the last podcast, I think it was with Mike talking about talking about A Course in Miracles. But when I get down to the root of almost everything, it’s worthiness, there’s a lot it’s worthiness. So knowing that I can make changes and choices that work for me that benefit me, and that I can start to work on those things. Well, what’s the problem there? Because that’s not a happy place to live, right? So how can I start to make changes in my life and how I think, to be able to start changing those things, right. So and there are different ways that you can do that once you’ve uncovered that step. And in my blog post, I’ll link to that in the show notes. I go a little further, and there’s a downloadable so you can actually download a little worksheet, a three, three or four page worksheet that will help you come up with your own ways to help identify those beliefs and then break them down to make them empower you. So I hope that helps. I hope you have a super duper week, and I’m excited to have you guys here what we’ve got in store on Wednesday. Thanks for listening, and remember to live big.
