You’re listening to Episode 158 of The Art of Living big. Hello, today we’re going to talk about resourcefulness. This is so huge. And I believe that this is one of the biggest ways that you can start to shift things in your life. So I’m excited to share with you a little bit about resourcefulness and how I’ve used it in my life and how I see my clients use it. And really how you can how you can start to really shift things in a much bigger way. And you know, those moments where you feel like I want to expand into something new, but you shrink back. Alright, we’re going to talk about that. So before we get going, I just want to remind you that if you go to my website, Betsy pake.com, there is a free training for you there. And that training is really how I work with my clients. It’s five steps that I use with my clients to help them go from feeling stuck or being in a rut or in a crisis and move into the greatest transformation of their life. And I think one of the biggest misguided things that I hear from people is that transformation takes a long time. And it doesn’t, it can actually happen like that it can happen so quickly, that my clients typically within the first week are going like holy smokes, I am seeing things differently. This past week, I worked with somebody that when we were done, they look too different. So immediately, when we were finished, she sat up really
upright, and her
whole face changed. I was like holy smokes, I’ve seen some crazy things. But she absolutely stepped into this new version of herself. And I saw it happen before my very eyes. And it was incredible. So don’t believe the hype. And then it takes a long time to make change. You got to work really hard, you got to suffer and all of those things. But I explained all of that in my training. And if you want to talk to me and hear a little bit more about all of that, you can schedule a breakthrough call with me, I can help and see if I can identify a belief system that might be holding you back. You’ve got to be resourceful. So you listen to today’s training. And if you are resourceful if you’re really looking for change, then you can jump on my calendar, you can go to Betsy pake.com backslash, let’s talk. Okay, I will see you there. And now let’s go to the show. Welcome to the art of living big. I’m your host, Betsy Pake. I’m an international expert
in manifesting from your subconscious.
And this podcast is designed to help you think differently about what could be possible for your life. Now, let’s go live big. Good morning, friends. All right. So do you see how I tried to say something different? Usually I say Hello, everybody. And my husband said to me, why do you always say that I’m like, cuz I’m saying hello to everybody. So Hello, friends, we’re gonna mix it up just because we can. So today I wanted to talk to you a little bit about being
resourceful. Now,
this might sound a little boring. But I’m telling you that if you can become more resourceful, you can literally change the trajectory of your life. So I want to really get into this, I want to talk about what it really looks like to be resourceful, and how being resourceful has helped me in my life. And really what I see with the most successful clients that I have, are the ones that are super resourceful. So
let’s talk
a little bit about it. There is a really great quote by Napoleon Hill, and it says a resourceful person will always make the opportunity fit his or her needs. Now, as an entrepreneur, being resourceful has been really, really important. And I’m going to use a couple examples from that, just because I think that they’re tangible, and they’re fairly recent for me. And I find that like, the more resourceful I can be. So here’s what happens. Let’s go, let’s back it up, let’s get a little bit higher overview. You have things that you want in your life, and you’re not sure how to get there, the path to get there already exists around you. It is trying to find you.
And in order to get to it, you have to put in action.
We’re on a physical plane. So I cannot just sit here in my office and dream about what it will be like to help thousands of women every year, and to speak on stage and transform thousands all at once. Right? That’s my that’s my dream. That’s part of my dream. So I cannot just sit here and imagine it I have to take actions. And some of my actions are not totally obvious to me right in the beginning, and some of my actions More importantly, I will think I don’t know how to do that. Right? Because if I knew how to do that, I would already be doing it. But there are things I am doing right now. At one point I said I don’t know how to do that. And if I let that stop me, then I never would be in this space right here, which is really pretty good, right? So I’m moving towards something bigger. But I have come to a space that I never would have come to if I was not resourceful. So I want to talk a little bit about some of what that looks like for me just as examples. Because I think that this happens so often with people. And when they don’t see a path right away, they think that the path doesn’t exist, or maybe that they have to, like wait for the path to come. And although I do believe things unfold to us and come into our awareness, I also believe that things come into our awareness as we are looking for them. And as we’re trying to be resourceful to bring those to us. So just as some examples when I was very first starting my coaching business, and you may have heard me talk about this before, but I owned a CrossFit gym. I was in sales for like 20 years, at a really great career, and I loved it. But I wanted to be home with my kiddo. And she was maybe like 11, and I decided I was going to leave and I was going to become an entrepreneur, I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit. In fact, I was talking with a friend the other day, and I was like, the very first time I ever had business cards was when I was 11. So I had created a business where I got certified as a babysitter and I asked my mom, if I could get business cards, and she got me business cards, and it said, certified babysitter, Betsy mcpheeters, certified babysitter. So my whole life, I’ve had this entrepreneurial spirit, and throughout the years have thought of different ideas of businesses that I could do. But for seven or eight years, I was a single mom. And that was my focus was really on creating stability, right. And so I was really resourceful in doing that. And I created a ton of stability. And I had a really great job that I really enjoyed. And all of that was great. But when my daughter started getting a little bit older, I wanted to be home or I traveled a bit with my job. So I opened my CrossFit gym, I had that for some time and realized once again, that that wasn’t really what lit me up, I didn’t want to be tied to a location and with a CrossFit gym. I mean, you’re tied to a location from like 5am for the first class until 8:30pm in the evening class. And so I knew I needed to transform that again. So after about three years, I sold the gym, and I just kept my coaching business, which at the time was nutrition based coaching. Now I’m certified in nutrition with precision nutrition, and I’ve been a competitive weightlifter and all those things. And so that was a great step for me to move to the thing I really wanted to do, which my whole life I really felt like what I really did great was inspire people and make people believe that they could do the things that they wanted to do, like that I have always felt was my superpower. Right? I used to say that I’m like a flashlight, right? So I am just here to shine a light so that you can see where you’re supposed to go. So you get to your dream, right? So my dream is that you get to your dream. And so that always has felt like my purpose. And so I when I sold the gym, and I got to the point where I was just coaching people with fitness, I wanted to make that transition. And I got my certification and my master cert in NLP and started learning all of the different things that I have in the certifications that I have my hypnosis, and my EFT and all of those things. But at the time, just like a lot of you that are starting your business, perhaps you you’re like, Okay, I’m ready. I, I have all these tools. And I know I can help people. And like where are the people and building an
audience and finding your people to help can sometimes feel really difficult. And I’m not very patient, I would say that’s probably a positive and a negative. But how I see it in this particular instance, is that I got really resourceful. And I started thinking about what are the things I really want? What do I really want to do? And one of the things I really wanted was I wanted to write a book, I wanted to be an author. And so I wrote a book, and I could not find a publisher. And so I figured out I got a coach to help me to self publish my book.
Now I have two books
on Amazon. And
the
the very first book that I did was a Amazon bestseller I wrote it I don’t know, maybe three or four years ago, it was about nutrition. It was about counting your macros. And that book still every month is brings me money, right? So it was very lucrative for me to do that. And it was fun and it was something I really wanted to do. But I wasn’t gonna wait to find a publisher because the publisher is going to want me to have an audience and want me to have all these things. What I found was I could actually make more money by self publishing it in the position I was in. I didn’t have to wait. If I waited, and I wasn’t resourceful enough to figure out, well, how could this happen? How could I do this differently? Right? I would still be waiting, I probably still wouldn’t have a book deal. But I had that experience, right, I created something, I created something to put out to the world. And that felt really good. And I believe that even though that has not made me a millionaire, it, it created momentum. Right. And, and then one of my big loves is speaking and I got speaking gigs, I will get them from time to time. But I wasn’t getting enough. And I really wanted to practice. And so I decided, I’m not going to wait to get speaking gigs, I’m going to create my own. And so every month I created my own speaking gigs here in Vegas, outside Atlanta, and every month at first it was, I don’t know, maybe like four or five people came. And then 15 people came. And then 20 people came, and it grew and it grew to a little community. And so again, being resourceful, I want to speak. So right off when you think like I want to speak then you imagine being hired by somebody to speak right? But to be resourceful is to say, Well, how else could I make this happen? Right? What else could I do? And you know, with my coaching business, right? How can I make this happen? I knew last summer, and you’ve heard me talk about this. I had a coach I wanted to hire I had been following him for a year, he helped like redesign, basically the back end of your business, which is really something that I needed it. I was getting some growth, and I needed help with that. And he was really expensive. And I had that moment on the phone where I was like, Oh my god, are you kidding me right now? Like, Oh, my God. But I knew that that was going to propel me to the next level, right? And so I had to get really resourceful. I couldn’t say like, Okay, well, right off. This is the answer to this is not coming to me. I don’t know how I’d get the money for that.
I put down the deposit because I wanted to tell the universe I am making this happened. And then it gets super resourceful. How so these are the questions I asked, How can I make this happen? I wanted to speak? How can I make that happen? How can I do that? What would be something that I haven’t ever thought of before? How could I do that in a way that isn’t available to me right now? I’m not thinking of right now. And all throughout the day, I would just say show me how show me how show me how like, as I’m driving my car, show me how I could make that happen. I needed to get resourceful. And so what I have found in my business, and in my life, if I have not gotten resourceful, I wouldn’t get what I needed, I wouldn’t get what I wanted, I wouldn’t be able to build my life in the way that I want and definitely not build my business as quickly. And so when you’re looking at things in your life, and you want change, and you will have a vision and you know, you’re doing your affirmations, and you’re doing all the right things, I want to ask you, are you being resourceful because like Napoleon Hill says, a resourceful person will always make the opportunity fit his or her needs. And so one of the biggest things in being resourceful, I think is in being really open minded. So it is this moment where I say I really want to write a book and have it published, how could I do that? Like, what, what what could be possible? Right? So maybe I go and find people that I could see that have published books and see how did they do it? Where did they start, right? get an idea, start expanding what I see as available to me, the reason that we have ideas and things we want in our life, and we’re like, I just don’t know how I could do that. That’s just not available to me. And you’ll have that moment. I have talked about this inside our Facebook group in a live video. But I talked about there’s this moment where you are here in this life, and you think I really want to do that over there. And then you have a choice in that split second, you have a choice to go, I’m going to try to do that. I’m going to figure that out. I’m going to I’m going to go for it or you go. I don’t know how I would do that. And so you shrink back into where you are. So all day long. This is happening to you. I have oh that looks fun. But I shrink back. And maybe I feel it in my own self. You know, maybe you’re scrolling like Instagram and you see somebody like and I think I’ve talked about this before because hashtag mildly obsessed. This woman that I follow that spent a month in Bali, so capture business because she has an online business like I do. And a month in Bali. And as soon as I saw that I went Oh, but I couldn’t do that because I have dogs. If you see what I mean. Like oh that looks really fun, but I’d have my kid wouldn’t be able to be Without me for a month, right? So what I did was I saw that thing. And I thought I want that. And then immediately I started coming up with all the reasons why that wouldn’t work, right. But what if I remain open to it? And I think I really want that. How could that happen? And maybe I think, Well, my, I have dogs, so that can happen. So maybe I think maybe that could happen for two weeks. Or maybe I could do it, go for two weeks with my husband, and then do a retreat there. And so my husband would fly back. And then I would do the retreat. So I could actually be there. And I’d have someone taking care of the dogs, right, if that was important, that important to me, right? So being resourceful, just thinking of new ideas and new possibilities, staying open minded, right? Whenever I have a problem, Oh, God, when I have a problem today, and it’s a problem I’ve never had before, I get so excited, like I go, Oh, this is an opportunity for me to practice being resourceful. This is a new problem, which is means growth, which is incredible. And I can practice being open minded and looking for a solution. Now, here’s the second piece that I think is really important when you are being resourceful. And that is being confident. So many times we have an idea of something we want to do. And we go Oh, I would really like to expand into that. And even if we take the step and go, how could that happen? Then we go but I couldn’t do that. Right? So you also have to have the belief that if you had the idea, you had the desire, you decided, yes, I’m going to expand into that thing. I’m coming up with all these ways that it could be possible. And I am going to believe that I would be the one that would be able to figure this out. Right? I have to know that I am capable of any of the how’s that come to me that I could figure out how to make that how possible, right? So I see that trip to Bali. And I won’t go Yes, I’m going to expand into that. How is that possible? And all these ideas start coming to me? So now I’m doing this whole system again, do I expand into the possibility? Or do I shrink back, right? Because I’ve made a new decision. So already in that new space, but from there, I can expand or I can contract. So now I’m in the space, I’m going to try. I’m going to go to Bali for a month at some point. I’m not sure when, but I’m open to it, then something will come into my awareness. And I go, I can’t do that. Right, I see that there’s a opportunity for speakers at a conference that’s in Bali, but I go, Oh, I’m not gonna apply. I’m not good enough, yet. I haven’t practiced enough, right. So there is a component of this that is reliant on you being self confident, no, what is self confidence? Self Confidence is only what you are saying to yourself. That’s it. Self Confidence is what you say to yourself. So as I look to build my life, I need to be more resourceful. And all I need to do to support that is to be telling myself the things that I want to believe that would make that possible. So being persistent,
is also going to be one of these, you know, as I was growing my business, and people would say no, people still say no. And I am persistent. I know who I can help. I’m so clear about it. And I am so clear that they will have phenomenal results. So I’m confident about it, right. And I am persistent, because I keep looking for those people. And when I find the people I know I can help I make you know, I talk with them and see if it’s a good fit. And then if they and I am persistent, because I know I don’t want them to I don’t want them to shrink back. They see what they want there in that moment. Right. I am honored to be with them in that moment where they are like, should I expand or should I contract? Right? Should I go for it? Should I leap into something I know I really want for myself or should I just contract back? Right? So I’m, I’m a witness to this moment. And so being persistent and helping them to be persistent. So that helps me and it helps them. And so when you’re when you are identifying these things, when you are ready to move forward, when you’re ready to expand and you start becoming resourceful. You start going I’m gonna figure out how I don’t care. I’m gonna figure out how and you’ve had these moments in your life right where you wanted something so bad. You were like, I’m gonna just figure out how you had to be productive. asst you had to keep figuring out how because the one hell might take you so far. But it might not take you all the way to the goal line. So the one How will take you to a certain point, and then you have to push to the next to the next to the next. So with all of this is really important that you have the right attitude, that you’re optimistic that you believe that this could be possible. And when you can believe this can be possible, you are much more open to looking for the house and the answers and the actions that you need to take. So being resourceful, I believe is the most important thing on any part of your journey, whether it’s an entrepreneurial journey, or it is just a growth journey, or it is a parenting journey, or it is your career journey, whatever it is being resourceful is hugely important. Because that I believe is where all other things can spring for. Right. So I can be optimistic, I can be self assured and self reliant. I can continue to push and continue to find the ways I and I have to believe that what it is that I just expanded into is possible. I have to believe that when I saw that thing, when I saw that month long in Bali, and I went like Yeah, I just expanded into that. Now I’ll tell you on my journey to get to Bali for a month. I have no idea when that will happen. But I do know that two weeks ago, I went for four days to Florida and work from Florida. And next week, I’m going to Florida for a whole week to work from Florida. So I’m getting these moments where it is. It’s it’s not across the world, but it’s working in the capacity that’s giving me that feeling way easier to deal with my dogs. way easier to travel there, right. So I’m coming up with how could that happen? What does that experience really mean to me? And what does that feel like? How can I create that feeling in the now and being resourceful? And I know that the more I get the that feeling and those hits of ocean and beach and travel and feeling like my business can be mobile, right? Because that’s one of the things that causes me to restrict, could I really do it well enough? Could I with the time change? Could I do all that? Right? So having this time where I find something that I can expand into on the path, right? So I’m not thinking and you might be listening to this going? Well, Betsy, Florida isn’t Bali, like you’re not really going to Bali. But let me just tell you that when I drive from Atlanta, and I drive to Louisiana, when I go to New Orleans, I have to drive through mobile, right, I drive through Mobile, Alabama, I drive through Atlanta, I drive through Birmingham, I drive through Mobile, Alabama. And when I get to Birmingham, I don’t go Oh my God, this doesn’t look like New Orleans. This isn’t right. I got a I got Oh, I got to turn around and go back visiting right isn’t right.
No, I keep going. Like this is part of the path, I’m on the path. keep going keep going forward. Right. So being resourceful finding the fastest path to New Orleans that I can write, using the tools that I have around me, which would be maps or my phone, whatever is right, talking to friends checking the traffic, I can be resourceful and make that the quickest trip that I can. And you can use all of these same skills, and be resourceful in your life, too. So I want you to notice today, where do you start to expand? And are you shrinking back? Or are you staying expanded, and if you stays expanded? Know that helping you be resourceful is going to be the biggest gift that you can give yourself? How can I make this happen? How can this come true for me? What would I need to do? What would I need to know? Who would I need to be in order to step into this new version of myself? And I believe that when you can do that, that is when you live a big life. All right, you guys, I’ll see you next week. Thanks so much for listening to this episode.
