Betsy shares her thoughts on the idea that there is a point in time at which we can choose to become more. We always have control over our thoughts no matter the situation, and we can make the choices to break out of whatever situation we find ourselves in. It doesn’t have to be the way it is just because it’s been that way in the past.

TRANSCRIPT
Welcome to the Art of Living big podcast. My name is Betsy pake. I’m an author, a speaker, and a trainer of NLP and hypnotherapy. And I’m focused on helping you understand and design your life with the power of the subconscious. This podcast is designed to help you think differently about what could be possible for your life. Now, let’s go live big. Hello, hi, hello fellow adventurers, welcome to today’s show. So I have a little bit of a different twist on things today. You know, I feel like typically, like I’ll have interviews, like I get some really good fun guests to share with you. And so many times I share, like lessons, right, like things that happen in the ordinary every day. And what I think the meanings can be an AI, we’re meaning making machines, right, we want to make meaning out of things. And so it always feels really good for me to be able to make meaning that serves me, right, because we have a choice, we can decide, am I going to choose to have the meaning be something that holds me back? Or am I going to choose to have this meaning of this thing that happened be something that actually propels me forward, something that makes me grow something that makes me become a little bit different. And you know, a lot of the work that I do in the world is really on people’s identity. You know, it’s that version of you, that piece of you, that is like how you identify yourself, not just the roles that you have not like, I’m a mom, or I’m a wife, or whatever it is, it’s it’s deeper than that. It’s like, I am a person who is confident I am a person who things always work out for. Right, I am one of the most luckiest people, I am a person who loves to loves a challenge, right? That’s an identity level concept of myself. And I know, and you’ve probably heard me talk about this, but I know that the way to create change in someone else, I’m saying, like, if someone comes to me for change, not me just trying to change like people around me. But I know that if someone comes to me, they want to create change, the fastest way to do that in the easiest way is to change who they think they are. Because typically, if there’s something that you want, that you’re not getting in this physical reality, it’s because there’s something about you, the way you view yourself deep down unconsciously, that says you’re not the kind of person who gets that thing. I mean, it’s it’s as simple as that. And as complex as you’d want it to be. This is how come when people change things, based on their environment, or change things based on their behavior. The changes don’t last. Soon, as soon as they’re not consciously thinking about it, their identity takes over and who they think they are, becomes what becomes prevalent in their decision making in their interactions with people and the micro expressions on their face, and how they’re viewing every situation in the stories that they’re telling themselves about every situation, the stories they tell themselves about themselves. And I’ve been thinking a lot about this recently, because I mentioned in a previous episode that my daughter was struggling, and you know, it’s part of growing up, it’s part of being human, it’s part of being human is struggling with things. And as I was talking to her, I was realizing that the identity that she had about herself and what was available to her and the options and the choices that she has as a 20 year old, which can feel limiting, right, you don’t have a full time job, you’re not making your own money, you still are living by part of your parents rules or whatever.
It can feel restricting. And I think that that happens to us no matter what age we are, it can be really obvious when we’re 20. Because we can look and we can point to things and say, Well, I can’t do what I want, because you won’t let me do I can’t do what I want. Because I have to finish school or whatever. Whatever the reason is, when you’re young, I think it’s really easy to point to something else outside of you. And I think if we’re not careful, that can become a habit and then we do it as adults. And then we say well, I can’t do the things I want to do because my boss never gives me the promotion and I can’t have the life that I want to have because I’m dealing with this big thing and I know because I’ve done With big things that stop me from doing other things that I really want to do. And I think that today, I wanted to come in and, and, and share with you something that I have been thinking a lot about myself and something that I shared with my daughter. And that’s the idea that there is a point where we can choose to become more, there’s a point where we just get to make the choice. And that alone changes things, just making the choice, I was making a new vision board for myself. For the wallpaper on my computer, I dropped a glass of water on my, on my Mac Book Pro, and it was a very sad day, and I went to the Apple store, and I had to buy a new computer. And so I was like, I’m gonna make this the best situation that it can and I’m going to make the background of my wallpaper, like refresh it, make a new vision board, and I do that in Canva. And they take all these photos and I find the photos like on Pinterest or on Unsplash. And I take the photos that make me feel something. If you looked at my vision board, you might be like you want that? No, but it makes me feel something. You know, there’s a picture of a woman in a suit with a briefcase getting on a helicopter. I don’t want that I definitely don’t want to wear a suit and a briefcase. But it made me feel something right New York City skyline behind her is like powerful. So it’s the feeling that I really want. And I was creating this vision board. And I realized that it was kind of hard for me to find things that were making me feel the way that I wanted to. And I was like that’s really interesting. Because usually like I have a lot of dreams and ideas. And you know, this past year has been really interesting for me in that so many things about my life have exploded into the things I always wanted. And that’s been great. And it’s given given me like a whole new a whole new appreciation for like anxiety. Because as the faster I go, the more I’m like, Oh my gosh, like this feels so unsteady. This is also new. Who am I in this? And as I was creating the vision board, I was like I like I don’t even know what I want, because so many of the things I had been focused on for like five or six years came true. Or those things kind of shifted. And it’s not really something that I’m focused on right now. And I was I was thinking about it and the things that would make me go Yeah, worked. Like I want to feel positive, I want to feel it wasn’t that it wasn’t like pictures of the beach or pictures of a yacht, or anything like that, even though I take it. It was the idea that Muhammad Ali showed. Hey there, I was curious, did you know that I had online courses on my website, if you go to Betsy pake.com, you’ll see at the very top menu bar, there’s a link called courses. And when you go there, you’ll see I have a variety of courses. There’s a hypnosis library, where there’s a whole collection of hypnosis, from everything from spiritual hypnosis, to weight loss and everything in between. There’s also some classes on subconscious programming and really getting to understand your unconscious better. One of my favorite courses that I’ve ever done is called the infinite soul project. And this is all about spirituality, and how that really connects in with your subconscious mind. And if you scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page, there’s some free courses there too. And when you log into that, you’ll be able to have access to my online community that we’ve moved away from the Facebook group and into this new platform that I’m really excited about. And we hope to be doing some more free classes inside there as well. So jump in, find it over on my website, Betsy pake.com.
And I’ll see you there. When Muhammad Ali was young, and he was a boxer, and he had failed a lot, and he there was a speech that he gave, and I know that this is familiar to you most likely, but the speech he gave was like I’m going to show you how great I am. I’m going to show you how great I am. And this I found was the thing that actually made me excited, you know, I’m gonna say in a strange way, like, it wasn’t that I felt like I had to show somebody something but it was the feeling of I can be more I can show me how great I am. I can be more and as I was talking to my daughter this morning, and I actually talked to a client about it too, because it was on my mind because I’m feeling this so much is that this idea? that everything that’s happened, everything that slowed us down everything that seemed like failures, or trials or like hardship, those were those, those are the logs that go into the fire. Those are the ones that fuel it, and then you can get this big, raging roaring fire. And then you can be like, I’m gonna show you what I can do. All those trials and tribulations were just teaching me what I needed to know. So that I could get here and I could show you. Okay, so originally, I had the podcast with a clip of the audio of Muhammad Ali. And then after I was done, I was like, that is gonna get taken down, because I don’t own the clip. So I’m going to tell you what he said, I’m not going to try to do it like him. But you guys need to go to YouTube. And just like Google it, just look for Muhammad Ali. how great I am. And so this is an interaction between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman. And he’s talking about how he’s, he’s bad. Like, you guys have heard this before. Right? The I’m going to show you how great I am. But he says like I’ve done something new this time. Like he says, I’ve wrestled with an alligator. That’s right. I’ve done wrestled with an alligator. I’ve done tussled with a whale. I’ve done handcuffed lightning, through thunder in jail, he starts rhyming, which I find really fascinating. But what he’s saying is I’ve done things differently. In the past, things might have not turned out the way I wanted them to, I might not have shown up to be the greatest. But now I’ve done things different. Right? He says, Last week, I murdered a rock, I injured a stone, it’s fascinating to listen to. But what he’s saying is like I am going to show you I’m putting everything that I have into this to show up as great as I can be. And so I want you guys if if you feel intrigued by this, or even if you’ve heard it before, you know sometimes I just go and listen to it, which I know sounds a little silly, but it’s it gets you motivating, like how great can you be? And can you show up in that way. And it’s not about for me, when I listen to it, it’s not about like being greater than anybody else. It’s about being as great as you can be, right? Last night, I cut off the light in my bedroom hit the switch was in the bed before the room was dark. I’m fast. So I want you to just think how great how great can you be? Alright, so now we’ll go back to the show. And I want I want you to channel that. Whatever it is that you’re in right now. I’m gonna guess you’ve been in hard things before. And maybe all those hard things were there to get you to this point where you realize you’re bad. You can do this. Show everybody how great you are. Show the world who you really are not this version of yourself that you’ve been channeling and hypnotized into believing. Show yourself and show everybody else who you really are. Know who you really are. We are divine energy. We are channeling divine energy. And I think that we have been hypnotized to to forget that I know I have. And then there’s times where I’m like, wait a minute, what are we doing? What are we thinking? And why are we acting like this? Because way I’m acting and the way that I’m thinking about this problem, or this anxiety or this overwhelm or this problem?
It’s, it’s not true. It’s just the way I’m seeing it at this very moment. You know, I’ve talked before about how many bits of information we see in every second. So we’re taking in 2.3 million pieces of information every second or nervous system 2.3 million. Now, consciously, I can only be aware of 120 626. So if I’m stuck in a problem, is it possible that the 126 pieces of information my subconscious has chosen to show my conscious aren’t the ones that solve the problem? Like if that much information is coming in every second? Is it possible that those 2 million pieces of information that I’m not aware of could be the thing that shifts me could be the things that shows me how great I am could be the thing that gives them the idea to move out of the problem, the strength, the new perspective Like, absolutely, we just have to be able to be willing to see things differently. I was texting with somebody that’s on my tax list, and they had messaged me after I had sent out a text, you can get on that list if you want. Let me tell you really quick, it’s 770-343-3409 just text me like Hello. And that will get you on the list. And then a couple times a week, I send out like a thought after my deep streaming session, my meditation. And one of the things that I was saying to her is ask yourself, she described this problem. And I was like, ask yourself, what is it I’m not seeing that I need to see, show me what I’m not seeing. If I’m stuck in a problem, I will ask myself, I will walk around throughout my day. And I will say that out loud. Show me what I’m not seeing. Because the truth is, you are great. You are bad. We all can channel what Muhammad Ali was channeling in that day. And and I think that we forget, we disconnect from that. And we say like I’m this is me, and I’m mediocre. And I this is the troubles that I have. And this is how far I’m allowed to be great. Right? You might even feel it like I’m in this little like, I can go back and I could go forward but not very far. I’m in like a zone of mediocrity. And I don’t maybe I don’t want to be there anymore. When I was talking to my daughter this morning, I was like you’re just choosing to stay in this spot. And I think it’s really important to know that it’s a choice. Now I say it’s a choice. In this country, I’m assuming if you’re privileged enough to listen to a podcast, it’s a choice. And we always have control over how we’re thinking no matter our situation. And we are in a place where if you’re listening to this, you probably have a lot more choices. And you probably could break outside that mold. Even if you’ve been stuck in that spot for a long, long time. It doesn’t have to be that way just because it’s been that way. And so this week, a little bit of a shorter episode, but I wanted to share that with you. Because I’ve noticed it in myself, the things that inspired me weren’t like, they weren’t the normal things anymore. And I think there’s a shift in the world. And maybe you’re at a place where you’re like, Nah, the stuff that used to inspire me doesn’t inspire me. But maybe what could inspire you is the idea that there is so much more that the idea that you’re actually plugged into something that’s more that you have access to that and the capacity to do that and that the little space between neutral and negative and a little bit positive like that, like,
you know, negative two to two zone right around zero write that you’ve just been ping ponging back and forth. Sometimes it’s good. Sometimes it’s bad. Sometimes it’s okay. Maybe it should be like, Oh my god, this is amazing. And oh my god, this is terrible. Because if you want access to one, you got to be brave enough to have access to the other. And what does that mean? It means that you you’re okay, failing. You’re okay tussling with a whale. Right? You’re okay. Because you know that you can handle that. And then you get to have the opposite end of it. We live in a universe of polarity, you can only get to the joy if you’re you if you’re brave enough to go into the side, you know, I did the sad or despair or trouble or hardship, or things that challenge you. You know, when my dog died last year, like I mean, I grieved, I’m still I still am grieving. And I allowed it because I knew it would let me access something greater. I’d 1,000% If you’ve been here a while and you know, I went to Iceland and what a magical experience that was, I will tell you with certainty that never would have happened if I didn’t allow the grief. If I didn’t go into it, like really feel it. I wouldn’t have been able to get to that level of awe and excitement. I wouldn’t have had the bravery. Right to be able to say I’m going to take this risk and I’m going to like get on an airplane with people. I don’t know. It may seem unrelated, but I’m telling you it’s the same thing. Because courage is in the unknown, no matter which direction you’re going in. And when you dare to do that. Just practice just a little bit. You know, go to negative three, go to positive three, then four, negative four, like move the boundaries of where you’ve been operating in. Because I think everybody, I really believe that right now, especially if you’re listening, it’s important that you tap into that show, show the world how great you are. Because when you’re living to your full capacity, when you’re living that, like 10, then we can’t stay there all the time. But if you can access it back and forth, back and forth, access it, the whole world is better. The whole world is better. Because what we need is people that are really passionate about stuff. People that are really feeling stuck people that are really courageous people that are going into the bad because they know it gives them access to the good. So if you’re struggling, if you’re stuck, if you’re in an unknown if you’re like, I have so much fear gratulations congratulations, access it. Ask it, what are you trying to teach me? And how else can I see this differently? And expand, to show the world how great you are? Because I believe when you can do that, that is when you can live a big life. I love you so much. Go get them. See you next week. Hey, thanks so much for listening to today’s show. And thank you for sharing the show with your friends. I love when you guys do that. I appreciate it so much.
